Blog 12: Kaitlin Isley

In the final episode of Kill the Lights: More Than Just an Athlete, I spoke with graduate student and current Piedmont University softball player Kaitlin Isley. Kaitlin was the second graduate student I talked to on the podcast. I have been amazed by the number of athletes elected to use their extra year of athletic eligibility to pursue a master’s degree in their chosen field. Kaitlin is one of the athletes who decided to pursue a master’s degree and play her final year of eligibility. If you are unaware, spring sports in all NCAA divisions affected by COVID-19 were granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. This is the coolest thing because many athletes could play the sport they love and continue to go to school if they chose to. Many Piedmont athletes took advantage of the extra year and stayed with their respective teams for another season. Do you think the NCAA made the right move granting all athletes affected by the spring 2020 season another year of eligibility? Do you think this benefitted teams in Division III?
