Blog 8: Colby Reed

In the eighth episode of Kill the Lights: More Than Just an Athlete, Colby Reed joined the show for the first time to talk about her experiences with the athletic training program at Piedmont. I view the athletic training program to a similar degree as the nursing program. Both programs are very demanding on a student-athlete, not just from the coursework but the clinical hours required by each student. Student-athletes are required to balance both athletics and academics to a higher degree. If you think back to Gabbie Hayes's idea, some programs will not allow you to play your sport of choice and pursue nursing simultaneously. Do you think there is a notion that student-athletes are not capable of this? Student-athletes can do many things, especially playing an NCAA sport and pursuing their degree. Do coaches view athletic training to the same degree as nursing? Colby has some unique opportunities coming her way, working with the high school, the University of Florida, and much more. Colby continuously shows that she is more than just an athlete.
